Top 10 Engineering Programs

According to the US News & World Report rankings of best engineering programs, the Top 10 Undergraduate Engineering Programs in the nation (Best Colleges 2009) are as follows:

1 Massachusetts Institute of Technology

2 Stanford University

2 University of California--Berkeley

4 California Institute of Technology

4 Georgia Institute of Technology

4 University of Illinois--Urbana-Champaign

7 University of Michigan--Ann Arbor

8 Cornell University

9 Carnegie Mellon University

9 Purdue University--West Lafayette

MIT, Stanford and UC Berkeley are consistently ranked among the Top 3 positions, they remained in the Top 3 nationally as in 2008 rankings. Cornell University dropped a place form 7th to 8th.

In the ranking of Top Graduate Engineering programs (2010), MIT is also rated No. 1 in the country, ahead of Stanford (2nd) and UC Berkeley (3rd).

A total of eight schools is ranked in the Top 10 list for both their undergarduate and graduate engineering programs: MIT, Stanford, UC-Berkeley, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Carnegie Mellon, Caltech, and Michigan.

The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor

- ranked in the Top 5 for the following graduate specialties: 1st for Nuclear, 2nd for Industrial / Manufacturing, and 4th for Aerospace / Aeronautical / Astronautical.

- 1st nationally in the Google-based Ranking for Computer Engineering Departments.

California Institute of Technology

- ranked in the Top 5 for four engineering specialties: 1st for Aerospace / Aeronautical / Astronautical, 3rd for Chemical, 4th for Mechanical, and 5th for Electrical / Electronic / Communications.

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

- ranked in the top 5 for the following graduate engineering science specialties: 1st for Civil, 1st for Physics - Condensed Matter, 2nd for Materials, 3rd for Environmental, 4th for Electrical/Electronic/Communications, 5th for Computer Engineering, and 5th for Computer Science.
