Albany Law School Profile

Founded in 1851, Albany Law School is the nation's oldest independent school of law. In 1875, Albany Law published the nation's first student edited law-review, the Albany Law School Journal.

Albany Law School offers three- and four-year programs leading to a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree. It also offers joint degree programs such as the J.D./Master of Business Administration; J.D./Master of Public Administration; J.D./Master of Regional Planning; J.D./Master of Science in Bioethics; J.D./Master of Social Work. In addition the School offers the legal community the Master of Laws and Letters (LL.M.). The LL.M. program offers several different study options. Candidates may specialize in government administration and regulation, intellectual property law, health law, or international law.

The Albany Law School Institute of Legal Studies has been certified through the New York State Continuing Legal Education Board a an Accredited Provider of Continuing Legal Education inside the State of New York.

Notable Albany Law Alumni include Kate Stoneman (first female admitted to the New York State Bar), Jeanine Pirro (former Westchester County District Attorney), William McKinley (twenty fifth President of the US), James A. MacAlister (former president of Drexel University), Mary Donohue (former Lieutenant Governor of New York State), Lawrence H. Cooke (former Chief Judge of New York State), David Josiah Brewer (former Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court), etc.
